Daniels Family 2016 Ambassadors

Jeff and I met in high school. We started dating my junior year of high school. We got married after I finished school in 2013. We knew we wanted kids and it didn't take long. We had our first son Jeffery on April 20th 2014. The pregnancy was easy, everything went well except he was breech so I had a scheduled cesarean section. Otherwise he was a healthy baby. I found out I was pregnant with what I thought was our second child on Jeffrey's first birthday. I don't think he knows it yet but it was his best birthday present so far! We were trying for a couple months so I had already ben taking prenatal vitamins which included folic acid. During an ultrasound at 15 weeks, it was then we discovered we were having twins! Not just twins, but monochorionic monoamniotic identical twins! This type of pregnancy is so high risk that my doctor recommended I deliver at a hospital with a higher level NICU than where we originally planned to go to. We were then referred to a high risk Dr. in Orlando so that we could deliver the babies at florida hospital at a level three NICU. We went every two weeks for check ups and planned to go to the hospital at 28 weeks for continuous monitoring of the babies beer rates with nonstress tests. We had a goal to deliver at 34 weeks gestation unless the babies showed signs of distress. In that event I would have an emergency c section. The high risk doctor implemented a few other things because I was having twins. One of those things was to increase my folic acid intake to 1000. I was inpatient for 40 days being monitored then was there another 17 days in the NICU with the girls. A total of 57 days in the hospital away from my home, my husband, my 19 month old son. That was the hardest part! My husband would drive my son over four times a week so they could visit. We tried to have him stay the night in the hospital room but he couldn't sleep with all the bells and announcements and nurses coming and going. So my husband would drive over early in the morning to spend the day with us. My son and I would shower and put on his PJs at night and they would drive back home. The hospital is an hour and 15 minutes away from our home. When the girls decided it was time to come out it was one day before my scheduled section. Baby A (Livi) started having some decelerations in her heart rate. It was a Sunday and my husband was already on his way to the hospital with our son to spend one last night with me before he was no longer an only child. He wasn't there for more the 10 minutes before the Dr came in and said we were having the babies today. The surgery went great. Livi was 4 pounds 10 ounces and Violet was 4 pounds 2 ounces. Both girls came out with high APGAR scores. Neither of them needed any respiratory support. They were breathing on their own. They were considered "feeders and growers" in the NICU. They just needed to learn how to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. As well as get big enough and strong enough to take a bottle. I made breastfeeding them one of my priorities and since they weren't strong enough to be put to my breast I had to pump every two hours during the day and every four hours at night. Eventually after we got home and the girls were bigger and stronger we were able to get rid of the pump and breastfeed exclusively. I stayed at the Ronald McDonald house and my husband and son would come over on the weekends and stay. After 17 days of the NICU we finally got to take our girls home. Livi and Violet are healthy and gaining weight. They love being home with their big brother.
