Buzz Aldrin to take flight with the Thunderbirds in Melbourne

FLORIDA TODAY and AP

Legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin will take flight once again, this time with the world-renowned USAF Thunderbirds at the Melbourne Air & Space Show on Sunday.

Orlando Melbourne International Airport spokeswoman Lori Booker confirmed Aldrin's morning flight with FLORIDA TODAY. There was no time confirmed.

"It's a thrill for all of us to host him in this manner," she said.

Aldrin was the second man on the moon, piloting the Apollo 11 rocket and following Neil Armstrong onto the lunar surface in 1969.

Now 87 years old, the retired Air Force colonel who lives in Satellite Beach will be the oldest person to fly with the Thunderbirds, known for their rigorous physical requirements.

His flight comes as the Air Force celebrates its 70th year.
