Elementary student brought Glock to Palm Bay campus

One person was killed in an overnight Palm Bay traffic crash

A sixth-grade student brought a handgun to Port Malabar Elementary School and showed it off to his classmates, Palm Bay police said.

Officers went to the school, located at 301 Pioneer Avenue Northeast, about 9 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. Mike Bandish said. Teachers at the school said a classmate notified them about the gun, which was a 9mm Glock.

Father died of multiple gunshot wounds in Palm Bay

Police charged the boy with possession of a firearm on school campus. Officers found no ammunition on the boy or in the gun.

Brevard Public Schools officials said parents were notified Tuesday about the incident.

In September, police in Rockledge charged two students with possession of a stolen gun at Rockledge High School. The weapon was found in a car the students were in.
