Lorenzo Hardy makes a touchdown catch for Melbourne Central Catholic during the first half against Holy Trinity.

In a key Class 3A, District 6 contest, the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers rolled up 466 yards of offense and scored eight touchdowns to defeat the Holy Trinity Tigers 54-14 Friday evening at Hustler Stadium.

On their opening possession the Hustlers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as QB Joaquin Collazo connected with Levi Wilson for a 67-yard touchdown pass on the third play from scrimmage. The Tigers responded as LaAnthony Valentine broke loose on a 49-yard touchdown run to tie the score.

“We were able to keep up with them early, but they’re (MCC) a very good team,” said Tiger Coach Nate Hooks "We had a tough time keeping up with their receivers.”“We‘ll just get back to work and get ready for next week”

On the Hustlers' ensuing possession Collazo quickly took advantage of a Tiger miscue as he connected on a 40-yard touchdown pass with Levi Wilson. Will McKegg added the extra point giving MCC a 14-7 lead with 2:56 remaining in the half. On the Tigers' next possession they again fumbled the ball over to the Hustlers as Jayden Gonzalez recovered the ball at midfield. It was déjà vu as Collazo again needed only a single play to extend MCC’s lead as he completed a 50-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Hardy giving MCC a 21-7 lead at the intermission.

“We executed well tonight,” said MCC Coach Stacy Sizemore. “We’re starting to play consistent on both sides of the bal.l”

The Hustlers added five more touchdowns in the second half which led to a running clock in the fourth quarter. Collazo completed the game with 240 yards passing and three touchdowns, while Lorenzo Hardy caught a 50-yard pass from Collazo and added touchdown runs of 3 and 39 yards.

Next week both teams get a rest from district play as MCC (2-0, 0-0) will travel to Lake Butler to face the Union County Fightin' Tigers, while Holy Trinity (2-0, 0-0) will host Cambridge Christian.
