Rockledge police are investigating a case involving a baby left in a hot, locked car -- apparently for several hours as the father went to work.

The incident was reported to police at about 4:50 p.m. as a black Dodge pickup parked at Barton Plaza at 660 Barton Blvd. Co-workers heard the father screaming as he opened the truck and found the toddler, believed to be about 9-months old, police say.

The baby girl may have been in the closed truck without air for several hours, said Donna Seyferth, spokeswoman for the Rocklefge Police Department.

"It's beyond tragic," Seyferth said. Officers and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the toddler but were unsuccessful. An investigation is ongoing.
