Protesters plan to gather outside the Staples in Titusville Thursday to speak out against a national plan to put mail service in Staples stores.

The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the store at 3155 Columbia Boulevard, according to Charles Ponte, president of the Space Coast branch of the American Postal Workers Union. He said postal workers are sworn to protect the mail and they're accountable for mistakes, while Staples employees wouldn't be.

The Titusville event is planned to coincide with demonstrations in all 50 states, according to Ponte. He said protesters in Titusville will be joined by members of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the AFL-CIO.
