A 23-year-old West Melbourne man was jailed over the weekend after authorities said he pummeled his 65-year-old father after suspecting him of flirting with his girlfriend and another woman at a gathering.

Marshall Willard Wren was charged with battery on a person 65 or older after Brevard County sheriff’s deputies were called Saturday to a home on the 4800 block of Hidden Palm Place to investigate reports of a disturbance, reports show.

He posted a $2,000 bond and was released from the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes.

Deputies reported that Wren became upset with his father, who was sitting in a reclining chair during a gathering, and suspected him of flirting with the two women.

Deputies said Wren then walked downstairs and repeatedly punched the man in the face, causing several lacerations. He later admitted to investigators attacking his father, records show. A court date has not been set.
