Tracking Brevard's sports stars: Fielder, Jordan rise

We're following some of Brevard County's elite athletes and outdoorsmen during their respective seasons:

Baseball

Chris Heston: Former Bayside High player, now with the San Francisco Giants, saw his ERA rise to 4.33 after being roughed up for six runs in 52/3 innings Saturday, but he notched the win against the Rockies in a wild 10-8 game. Overall, he is 4-3. Thursday, he will face Atlanta.

Prince Fielder: Former Eau Gallie High and FAA player, now with the Texas Rangers, is tearing it up, hitting six home runs in 12 games, including homers in consecutive games for the first time since June 2013. He is hitting .351.

Taylor Jordan got called back up to the majors.

Taylor Jordan: Former Merritt Island High pitcher is 1-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.14 at Triple-A Syracuse (Washington Nationals). He has not allowed a homer in seven starts, yielding just one run in each of last two starts. Batters are hitting .209 against him. He pitched nine solid innings against Lehigh Valley this week, but the Chiefs lost to the IronPigs 2-1 in the 10th. Sunday, the Nationals decided to call him back up to the major leagues.

Brian Johnson: Former Cocoa Beach star, playing for Triple-A Pawtucket (Boston Red Sox), is 5-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 41 strikeouts in eight starts. At Indianapolis this week, he went six innings, allowing one run on eight hits in a 3-1 win. Batters are hitting .218 against him and only .198 in his minor league career.

Golf

Billy Horschel: Former Bayside High golfer had another week off after a solid finish in Ponte Vedra to raise his season earnings to $1,026.082. He has made 13 of 17 cuts this season, has a 71.694 scoring average and is 19th in the official World Golf rankings.

Vicky Hurst: Former Holy Trinity standout, coming off a wrist injury, has not made the cut in four LPGA tournaments this year. Her career earnings: $1,484,906.

Marco Dawson: Merritt Island resident competed in the Champions Tour's Senior PGA Championship in French Lick, Indiana, this week. He shot 77-72-73-68 to finish tied for ninth with a 2-over-par 290 total.

Nick Lindheim: Satellite Beach resident recently finished tied for 23rd at the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greer, South Carolina, on the Web.com Tour after shooting 14-under-par 272 with a pair of 66s in the middle rounds. His average driving distance in that tournament: 307.1 yards.

Daniela Iacobelli: Former Satellite High and Florida Tech golfer, playing on the Symetra Tour, tied for seventh at the Symetra Classic in Charlotte, N.C. She birdied three of the final five holes for a closing 67 that vaulted her 14 places. Her average driving distance was 254.67 yards. Her game is clicking again, posting three straight Top 10s and six straight Top 20s. Her career earnings: $97,918.

Surfing

Kelly Slater: Cocoa Beach's 11-time world champion has posted finishes of 13th, ninth, fifth and 13th and is now ranked 13th on the World Surf League standings heading into next month's Fiji Pro. His 2015 earnings: $48,750.

C.J. Hobgood: Satellite Beach native has not gotten out of the second round in four starts this year. He is ranked 35th heading into the Fiji Pro next month, but has collected $36,000 this season.

Damien Hobgood: The Satellite Beach native is tied for seventh on the Big Wave Tour with events in Peru and Mexico on tap. His career earnings: $1,156,750.

Soccer

Ashlyn Harris: Satellite High grad, who was recently named to the Women's World Cup roster as a goalkeeper was honored this past week in her hometown. The World Cup begins in Canada on June 6.

Fishing

J.T. Kenney: Palm Bay bass pro, a 14-year tour veteran who competes on the Walmart FLW national tour, placed 47th at last week's stop in at Lake Eufaula, Alabama. His career earnings are now $1,366,565. He has 42 career Top 10s. ..

Triathlon

Kaitlyn Shiver Donner: Satellite High graduate, who is among the top U.S. female triathletes, is hoping to earn an Olympic spot for Rio. Next up on the ITU World Triathlon Series is London, Great Britain, May 30-31.
