Why did you choose this career? Honestly, economic development chose me. After earning a bachelor of arts degree in advertising and public relations from UCF, I knew the path of your typical public relations professional wouldn't be the one I would navigate. While working in the operations department at a staffing firm following graduation, a chance meeting changed my course. On a return flight to Melbourne, I found myself sitting next to my cousin. It was through this conversation that I was introduced to the world of economic development and an opportunity to work at the Economic Development Commission of Florida's Space Coast. I found that I could impact the economy of my hometown by guiding businesses through periods of growth. Matching appropriate facilities, incentives and resources with just the right enterprising entrepreneurs proved to be both challenging and rewarding.

My current position in the Office of Economic Development at the city of Cocoa has afforded me the opportunity to work directly with small businesses owners. These connections have educated me on the importance of buying locally so that my dollars support our home-grown economy. As a Brevard County native, my connection to the families and businesses that live and thrive along the Space Coast drives my enthusiasm for economic development.

Best business advice you've received along the way: Work hard, don't live beyond your means and be diligent about saving your money. These are the words of wisdom that led me to sole ownership of a brand new car by the age of 21.

Type of cell phone and why: I recently switched from Android to iPhone just to see what all the hype was about. I like some of the iPhone's unique features, but Android poses stiff competition. I'm not sold on either yet.

Spare time activities: In my spare time, I enjoy working out, cooking and trying new outdoor activities with my boyfriend, learning about dietetics, and watching documentaries.

I enjoy the Space Coast because… of its history in the space shuttle program and its location. Brevard County has 72 miles of coastline providing the maximum amount of fun for beachgoers and watersports fanatics alike. Not to mention, an unrivaled space history that tourists from around the world come to experience. Freeze dried ice cream, anyone?

I'd enjoy it more if… it were 75 degrees year-round.
